The "Smoke" about Smoking

It is a sterotype of sorts to relate smoking to writers. As a writer, I am here to say sterotypes are not also misleading. In all fairness, I started smoking before I realized I had a knack with words. It started as a few cigerattes a day to almost two packs. It is almost ironic fopr a writer to fire up a stick of death as creates life with his Mac Book Pro keyboard. At this very moment I am sitting in the blistering cold puffing away as I wrtie this blog. Smokers rights have been stripped away and we are considered at the underbelly of "regular" society. I am neither embarassed or ashmed of my habit. In fact I am proud to have the freedom to enjoy a smoke whenever I please. With this I leave you with food for thought. Smoke always comes before fire. So why not fire up and smoke????

Chaucer vs. Contemporary Novels

After numerous pages and God only knows how many hours spent on discussing English lit,  I've come to the realization that I am not a fan of Chaucer. In all do respect to the man his work is border line aggrevating. How can Canterbury Tales first eighteen lines be considered the greatest lines in English lit?????? The man is simply describing the concept of spring. Yes my friends, birds chirpping and grass growing. As an English major, I have come to the realization that contemporary novels are more up my alley. Modernism and the concept of a "new age" has always been a strong suit of mine. I will leave you with this my fellow book buffs, read and read alot, for Jeporady is only one call away!!!!!

The Power of the Pen

Although I am a fan of the Mac keyboard, one should not take away the imporatance of the pen. Since the beginning of words, the pen, or pencil, has accounted for numerous tales being told. As I sit in my lit class wondering why I am here listening to Dickinson read aloud. I begin to question the power of the pen. Poetry is meant to be interpreted in many ways, its kind of like art. No one view is correct. I have never understood how one mans, or womans, view on art or poetry can be seen as correct. No one truly knows the artists emotions or there actual meaning. All in all pen has always and will forever be a mighty weapon to slash the minds of individuals across this earthly plane.

The first edition of "The Shalhout Post"

It was not until I'd read numerous bloggers and there idiotic rants did I realize that I should start my own blog. With this blog, I will be challenging writers therories and concept of rhetoric that I may not agree with. For my soon to be followers, comments and ideas for topics that I should cover are more than welcomed.

Best, Sam W. Shalhout III
